The chapter unites EMA members from the whole African continent. 

Our goals

  • to promote Erasmus Mundus activities on the continent through organization of workshops, events, participation in educational fairs, networking, as well as through country representatives
  • to provide assistance to prospective applicants and newly selected Erasmus Mundus students
  • to promote cultural diversity
  • to build networks and strengthen unity and friendship

Our activities

  • cooperation with the European Universities Association and Association of African Universities in carrying out the “Europe-Africa Quality Connect” project. Our members take part in evaluation visits to the African universities, participate in expert panels and will contribute to the dissemination of results
  • organizing a conference "Erasmus Mundus: Higher Education in Europe and the Dilemma of Brain Drain and Brain Gain in Africa" in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Erasmus Mundus promotion events in Nigeria, Kenya, Sierra Lione and Ghana
  • pre-departure orientation for newly selected students
  • participation in COP-17 in South Africa

Chapter Board

President

Apiyo Okwiri (Kenya) graduated from Joint European Master in Comparative Local Development (CoDe) in 2009, having studied in Italy and Hungary. Currently, she works as monitoring and evaluation coordinator in a NGO in Kenya. 

Vice-president

Lambini Cosmas Kombat (Ghana) is an alumnus of International Master in Rural Development (IMRD) and a lead member of the IMRD student group. Cosmas is currently researching in France at INRA/LEF AgroParistech in the EU funded NEWFOREX Project.

Secretary

Aimable Uwizeye (Rwanda) is currently a student of Agris Mundus in sustainable development in Agriculture (Catania University-Italy and Montpellier SupAgro – France). Before joining Erasmus Mundus, he worked for Rwanda Animal Resources Development Authority (RARDA).

Treasurer

Jean Bosco Siborurema (Rwanda) has graduated from Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Ports and Maritime Business Management and Maritime Law. Currently he is working as finance Mmnager for an NGO known as Health Poverty Action in Rwanda.

Events coordinator

Shingirirai Mutanga (Zimbabwe) studied Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modeling and Management (GEM). Currently he is based in South Africa working for the Africa Institute of South Africa, a science council focusing on African Affairs.

Regional coordinator - Eastern Africa

Cornelius Were Okello (Kenya) is currently studying Water and Coastal Management at the Universities of Plymouth in the UK and Cadiz in Spain. Okello used to work for Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute and UNEP’s Water Division.

Regional coordinator - Western Africa

Emmanuel Senyo Fianu (Ghana) graduated from Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics (QEM), having studied in France and Germany. Currently he is doing his PhD in Economics and Finance at the University of Verona, Italy.

Regional coordinator - Southern Africa

Martha Alida Geldenhuys (South Africa) joined the Erasmus Mundus course in  Coastal and Marine Engineering. She graduated in July 2011 and is currently working at an engineering consultancy called Aurecon in Cape Town.

Regional coordinator - Central Africa

Jude Dzevela Kong (Cameroun) worked at the Education institution in Cameroun before joining the Erasmus Mundus course in Mathematical Modelling in Engineering: Theory, Numerics, Applications Master's in 2010.

Regional coordinator - Northern Africa

Abdeltif El Ouahrani (Morocco) is currently a PhD student. He joined the Erasmus Mundus Master course in European Forestry in 2004. He was an active member of job and promotion team in 2006-2007 and a country representative at the same time.
