The LA Chapter unites EMA members from South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

 


Our goals

•    Building a strong community that encourages networking and exchange of knowledge among Latin American EM alumni and students;
•    Promoting the Erasmus Mundus (EM) Programme among interested candidates in Latin America;
•    Encouraging professional development and promoting successful integration of EM graduates into the regional labour market;
•    Supporting Latin American EM students in solving problems they encountered during their programme, particularly in relation to visas;
•    Fostering partnerships that enhance collaboration among Latin American and European institutions in order to promote a common space for higher education and cultural exchange.

Activities

•    Regional and country gatherings
•    Promotional activities in higher education fairs and universities across the region;
•   Small-scale initiative among the members to promote Erasmus Mundus or encourage the development of a country network;
•    Participation in projects that enhance collaboration between European and Latin American institutions of higher education (e.g. BRIDGES and PROMHEDEU projects);
•    Collaboration with other alumni associations in Latin America, such as the ALBAN community;
•    Surveys to identify obstacles and opportunities to enhance the educational experience within the EM programme and support the professional development of Latin American EM alumni
•   In coordination with the European Commission, Latin American Chapter conducted a research to the understanding of degree recognition in Latin America.

EMA Latin American Country Representatives

In order to create visibility and promote Erasmus Mundus locally, most Latin American countries have a native student or graduate as an EMA representative.

Chapter Board

President

Roberta Gregoli is a Brazilian researcher, currently doing her PhD at the University of Oxford. She undertook the Erasmus Mundus Crossways in European Humanities course  from 2007 to 2009. Roberta has been an active member of EMA since 2008. Before becoming President of the Latin American Chapter, she held the position of Course Representative (2008-2009), Vice-President of EMA-LA (2009-2010) and, as Country Representative for Brazil; she founded the EMA Brazil network in 2008.

Isaac Lemus is Mexican and lives in Mexico City working as a project manager in the Ministry of Finance (Tax Administration Office). He studied the Masters in Strategic Project Management (European) in the United Kingdom, Italy and Sweden from 2006 to 2008. Isaac has been an active member of EMA & EMA-LA since 2008, coordinating activities in Mexico among universities, companies, international institutions, as well as Mexican Erasmus Mundus students & alumni.

Academic and Cultural Cooperation Coordinator

Marina Martin is a Brazilian Architect and Urban Designer. From 2008 to 2010, she studied Management and Enhancement of Historical and Cultural Heritage in France, Portugal and Italy (Erasmus Mundus TPTI). Marina had her first contact with EMA's Community in 2009 when she was elected Course Representative. Currently she develops her PhD at the University of Campinas.  Apart from research her  passions are architecture, arts and culture.

Professional Development Coordinator

Angel Cano is a Mexican Electronics and Control engineer. In 2006 joins Erasmus Mundus course SpaceMaster. After SpaceMaster worked at LG Electronics Home Appliance R&D in hometown Monterrey and was in charge of the control of electric and gas ranges. Currently is developing a business idea related to electronics development for education and does a part time job as English/Spanish interpreter. His interests are: Mechatronics, control systems, signal processing, green energy, sustainable development, playing guitar, video games, cooking and gardening.

Political Representation Coordinator

Mei Kanatani is Brazilian and she holds an undergraduate degree in Food Engineering from Unicamp (Brazil) and an MSc in Food Science, Nutrition and Technology from Erasmus Mundus Sefotech (2008-2010) in Belgium, Germany and Portugal. Currently she works as Research and Development Engineer in Japan. She has been active in EMA-LA since 2010 and enjoys music.

Promotion Coordinator

Luis Pineda is a Mexican computer scientist with a main interest in parallel and distributed computing. He studied the European Master in Informatics (EuMI) in Scotland and Italy (2009-2011). Luis is a member of the EMA since 2009, and has been involved in promotion and candidates' advice activities since then.
