MSc in NeBCC – The Bits and Bytes of Information Technology and e-Business

MSc in Network and e-Business Centered Computing is today the focus of "One issue - One Programme" special feature...

MSc in Network and e-Business Centred Computing is a master's programme designed for students and professionals from IT, business or similar background who wish to study Information Technology and its applications in business scenarios.

The course curriculum is designed in collaboration with major Information and Communications Technology (ICT) organisations keeping in mind the ICT skills shortage in Europe. It introduces wide ranging subjects which are shaping the industry today. Thus, the course outlook is quite practical and application-oriented and, equal emphasis is laid on teaching and coursework.

The consortium of universities offering the course consists of:

  • University of Reading, UK
  • Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
  • Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain

The course is intensive with duration of eighteen months. Each of the partner universities has its own areas of specialisation on which it focuses during the course. In the first year, after studying the different modules in the universities, students are equipped with a varied skill set allowing them to zero in on their own area of interest and then accordingly select a university for the final six month dissertation.

Fellow students in the course are of as many as sixteen different nationalities. The course mobility for the first year is fixed and so, the entire class travels through and studies together in Europe, shaping into a close-knit group. The host countries – England, Greece and Spain – are remarkably diverse despite being part of the same continent. Together, they provide for a very vivid and holistic European experience. Each university also offers students local language courses to facilitate integration into the local culture and way of life. At the end of the course, a joint masters degree is awarded by the partner universities.

Paras Metha, MSc NeBCC alumni (2006-2008), clearly states the benefits of the programme:
“The one and a half year that I spent in the course is a memorable time for me not only because of all the knowledge and skills that I got to learn but, also because of the loads of new people I met, the friendships I forged and the places and cultures I witnessed”.
