EarthCorps (http://www.earthcorps.org/index.php) is a well known non-profit organization that brings together hundreds of thousands of volunteers who are eager to engage in environmental projects. While the focus is on local community projects to maintain or restore healthy environments, EarthCorps cooperates with hundreds of governmental and non-governmental institutions and clubs on six continents. One of their aims is to build a global community by common interest, aiming at global leadership through the committment of young volunteers from all over the world.

The 6-months learning program offered in Seattle in Washington State, USA, is designed to bring together emerging leaders to learn the fundamentals of:

• Environmental Service
• Community Building
• Leadership

While EarthCorps charges no tuition or free for the program, applicants must meet certain criteria in order to be considered for the scholarship. Among the requirements are:

• between 18 and 25 years of age
• 4 year college degree in the environmental field AND 1 year of relevant work experience
• physical fitness and desire to work outdoors

Since you need to be nominated and referred to EarthCorps by an environmenta institution (e.g. an NGO, student club, or community group), gathering information early is recommended.

The deadline for nomination is 30 September 2009.
