The Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA) was invited to participate in the third ERASMUS+ Info Session in Malaysia, hosted at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on the 12th of September, 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The day-long information session provided a comprehensive overview of the Erasmus+ program, its benefits, and the opportunities it offers students, staff, and institutions. In attendance were over 100 participants in a hybrid format, and representatives from several universities, including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UNIKL) were also present.
Following the opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faris Ismail, Covering Rector, IIUM and a welcoming address from Prof. Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie, Deputy Rector (RRI), IIUM, Eero Oinonen, Political Officer in the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia, spoke on navigating the Erasmus+ Programme and the roles and responsibilities of EU Delegation to Malaysia.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Malaysia presented an in-depth view of the international dimensions of the Erasmus+ Programme and shared key opportunities for students and staff of higher education. This was followed by a session from Erasmus+ beneficiaries, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maizatun Bt Mustafa, who presented on Curricula Development on Climate Change Policy and Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ainul Azmin Binti Md. Zamin on Environmental and Peace Education in Interreligious Cooperation for Religious Teacher Training; and Mdm. Nor Aminah Kostor, who shared her staff mobility experience at Sivas Cumhuriyet Universitesi in Türkiye.
EMA's Management Board member and Director of the Partnership Development Unit, Dr. Collins Santhanasamy, was invited to share his experience with the Erasmus Mundus Programme, present on EMA, its activities, and highlight avenues for partnerships and collaborations at both the national and regional levels. He highlighted that EMA, a global association comprising of 16,000 members with an extensive network of over 200 country and program representatives, is actively seeking collaborative partners across the ASEAN region as part of its strategy to strengthen global support for students and alumni of the Erasmus Mundus Programme.
