The Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) in the Philippines recently held a successful webinar in collaboration with the country’s first Jean Monnet Chair, spotlighting digital culture’s role in empowering youth voices. The event brought together experts and young participants to explore how online platforms can foster both cooperation and critical discourse. It also highlighted the importance of EU-funded academic initiatives in strengthening global education ties and youth engagement in the Philippines.
On 25 March 2025, the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) in the Philippines hosted a landmark event titled “Youth Voices Online: Digital Culture’s Potential for Contestation and Cooperation.” The webinar, held via Zoom, was led by Mr. Nicky C. Cardenas, EMA Country Representative for the Philippines.

A key highlight of the event was the collaboration with Prof. Dr. Manuel R. Enverga III, the first Jean Monnet Chair in the Philippines, awarded by the European Union and Director of European Studies at Ateneo de Manila University. Dr. Enverga commended EMA’s continued efforts to promote EU higher education programmes, including Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJM) and Erasmus+, among prospective Filipino students.
The session explored how digital culture plays a transformative role in shaping youth engagement and activism. Participants engaged in thoughtful discussions on how online platforms empower young people to voice opinions, challenge societal structures, and collaborate across borders. The event offered valuable insights into the intersection of technology, youth movements, and global cooperation.
The success of this EMA webinar marks a promising beginning for future collaborations between EMA and the Jean Monnet Chair, reinforcing their shared commitment to youth empowerment and international education.
