On 15 August 2025, the European Union Delegation (EUD) to the Philippines, in close collaboration with Campus Erasmus alumni and with the support of the Erasmus Mundus Students & Alumni Association (EMA) Country Representative Philippines, successfully organized the Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for 53 newly awarded Filipino scholars under the prestigious Erasmus+ Programme. The event was held at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City, Philippines. This highly anticipated gathering marked a significant milestone for the scholars as they prepare to embark on their postgraduate studies at leading universities across Europe.
The orientation not only provided essential guidance on academic and cultural integration but also served as a celebratory send-off, recognizing the scholars’ dedication and achievements. A key highlight of the program was the warm and inspirational address delivered by EU Chargée d’Affaires, Honorable Frederic Grillet, who also serves as the First Secretary and Political Officer. He was joined by Ms. Thelma Gecolea, EU Public Affairs Officer, both of whom extended their heartfelt congratulations and encouragement to the departing scholars.
Adding to the enriching Erasmus+ atmosphere, Mr. Nicky C. Cardenas, EMA Country Representative for the Philippines, together with active Filipino Erasmus alumni Ms. Kate Ramil, Ms. Peeaye Roxas, Ms. Ruby Amor Barraca, Mr. Hans Kevin Madanguit, Ms. Jona Ang, Ms. Aieshah Balmori, and Mx. Kiel Suarez, delivered heartfelt messages, personal reflections, and practical guidance. Their contributions offered the incoming scholars meaningful insights into academic life and cultural adaptation in Europe, fostering a sense of preparedness and connection within the broader Erasmus+ community.
The EU Delegation, through its sustained engagement with Erasmus+ alumni, reaffirmed its commitment to fostering educational exchange, intercultural dialogue, and stronger academic linkages between the Philippines, the EU-ASEAN, and beyond. The contributions of EMA and Campus Erasmus alumni were instrumental throughout the event, particularly during breakout sessions, interactive questions and answers, and discussions on cultural preparedness. It showed the strength of peer mentorship and community support within the Filipino Erasmus+ network and EMA.
Finally, the success of the PDO event and the achievements of the 53 scholars were prominently featured in both national and international media, including coverage on the EU Delegation to the Philippines’ official website, Philippine News Agency (PNA), Inquirer
Global Nation, PhilStar, and Manila Bulletin, highlighting the continued impact and relevance of the Erasmus+ Programme in the Philippines.
