Host families in the UK

HOST UK organizes visits of international students to host families in the UK. Students can spend weekends or holidays with a British host family.

Whether you're spending just one term or longer in the UK as an Erasmus Mundus student, there's nothing quite like staying with the locals and finding out that  friendships can form despite differences. Visits are free if your university is a subscribing institution.

Abby Yao, a CoMundus alumna (2006-2008) from the Philippines, writes about her HOST UK experiences:
“On my last term in London, I went on two HOST visits. I bought coach and train tickets thinking I was a little crazy to spend two nights at a stranger's house. But think about it: what kind of people would let a stranger live with them? I quickly found out that my hosts, a retired couple from Norfolk and a widow from Derbyshire, were very open to other cultures and have travelled a lot before. I was not the first student that they hosted and certainly not the last. They made sure that the itinerary was consistent with my interests: theatre, visiting historic sights and seeing the countryside. I was fascinated by their hobbies, from windmill conservation and stamp collecting to volunteering for charity and church work. And regardless of the reputation of English food, I enjoyed every meal. Afterall, my hosts and I share much in common. I cannot thank them enough for their generosity.”
